Parenting Classes

At Beech Brook, family stability begins with strong, supported caregivers. Our Parenting Classes, based on the evidence-based Nurturing Parenting Programs curriculum, give parents practical tools to build empathy, improve communication, and use positive discipline strategies that create safe, stable homes.

Many caregivers were never shown what healthy parenting looks like. Without support, stress can quickly overwhelm even the most loving families. That’s where this program makes a difference.

Through guided discussion and skill-building activities, parents learn how to:

  • Respond to behavior without harsh punishment
  • Set realistic expectations for their child’s age
  • Strengthen emotional bonds
  • Create consistent, predictable routines

The impact goes far beyond one class. When parents gain confidence and skills, children experience fewer disruptions, stronger attachments, and greater emotional security. Over time, this reduces the risk of foster care involvement, school challenges, and long-term trauma.

Who Should Attend?

Parents and caregivers of children of all ages who want to strengthen their parenting skills or are working to rebuild trust and connection within their family.

Positive, consistent relationships with caregivers are one of the strongest protective factors in a child’s life.

Many challenging behaviors in children are actually responses to stress — not intentional misbehavior.

When parents learn new ways to respond to stress and behavior, it can break patterns that have lasted for generations.

When a parent learns to respond with empathy instead of frustration, a child feels safe.
When a home becomes more consistent, behavior improves.
When families grow stronger, communities do too.

That’s the ripple effect of investing in parenting support — lasting change that begins at home and extends outward.
