In an age where technology plays an integral role in our daily lives, parents face the ever-evolving challenge of guiding their children safely through the digital landscape. To address this critical need and empower parents with the knowledge and tools necessary to foster safe, educational, and healthy online experiences, we are excited to introduce Beech Brook’s new virtual parenting series: "Parenting Beyond the Screen."

This new series aims to equip parents with the knowledge they need to navigate the digital world with confidence. Topics will include online safety, cultivating healthy digital habits, and nurturing strong family relationships in the digital age. Classes are being developed and taught by Beech Brook’s Assistant Clinical Director, Rachel Humphrey, LISW-S.
There are two opportunities to participate with more classes in development:

Part 1: Building a Tech-Resilient Generation
Date: Wednesday, October 25

  • Explore the world of social media, including platforms like Roblox, YouTube, and live server video games.
  • Recognize the potential negative effects of excessive screen time, especially when coupled with low self-esteem or pre-existing conditions.
  • Identify signs that may signal the need for intervention.
  • Learn strategies for building resilience, self-esteem, and fostering positive online connections.
  • Guide your child towards responsible social media use while nurturing their emotional well-being.

Part 2: Power of Relationships: Talking Online Safety
Date: Wednesday, November 29

  • Prepare for your child's teenage years in the digital era.
  • Discover strategies for introducing safe social media use.
  • Encourage open discussions about potential risks and establish clear boundaries to ensure online safety.
  • Create a safe and healthy online environment.
  • Learn how to model responsible and healthy online behavior to help shape your child’s approach to social media.

Each session will offer two time slots to accommodate busy schedules:

  • For Parents of Kindergartners through 6th Graders:
    • Morning Session: 12:00 – 1:00 pm
    • Evening Session: 8:30 – 9:30 pm
  • For Parents of 7th through 12th Graders:
    • Afternoon Session: 1:30 – 2:30 pm
    • Evening Session: 7:00 – 8:00 pm

Cost of the classes: $15 for one class, $25 for both Part 1 and Part 2

All classes will be recorded and a link to the recording will be sent to everyone who registers, ensuring that parents can access the valuable content at their convenience.
