Mental Health: A pandemic among Ohio kids and beyond
We were honored to be included in Cleveland 19 News' Special Report, "Protecting Our Kids" featuring Carrie Tulino-Bell and Christine Haught from Beech Brook. Carrie and Christine were part of a segment, "Mental Health: A pandemic for Ohio kids and beyond" about mental health and finding solutions that work.
Christine Haught, Beech Brook's Case Manager Therapist at the Twinsburg Schools was nominated for “Lifechanger of the Year” by Twinsburg parent Kim Abate. Kim shared how much Christine helped her daughter relieve her anxiety at the start of the school year.
Christine works with 2nd and 3rd graders and noticed that worrying and anxiety are top concerns of the students she sees. Her advice for parents: "Don't be afraid to ask for help."
Carrie Tulino-Bell, Director of Beech Brook's School Based Program at Twinsburg, and a Social Worker at Twinsburg High School shared how important early prevention is to help kids who are struggling - "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure." She also reminds parents to look for signs that your child may be acting differently and to ask for help -- at your child's school, or from your pediatrician.
Beech Brook’s School-Based Mental Health Services provide support to children struggling with emotional and behavioral issues at more than 60 schools across Cuyahoga, Lorain, Summit, and Geauga counties. Beech Brook staff work directly with the children, teachers, school administrators and families to address the mental or behavioral problems that are getting in the way of learning.
Schools that offer our services see improved attendance and academic performance and better behavior and social interactions in the children enrolled in our programs.
