#GivingTuesday Toy Drive impact on the children and families we serve
While distributing gifts from the #GivingTuesday Toy Drive to the Beech Brook staff, one staff member shared how grateful she was to be able to pick out gifts for her clients, specifically one in particular. When she asked him if he was excited for Christmas, he responded:
“Yes – but I’m not going to get any toys this year. I am the oldest, and I told my mom that all the presents can go to my younger brother and sister. So I’m not going to get anything, and that’s okay.”
He is 8.
This is the reality for many of the children served by Beech Brook this holiday season. Thanks to your generosity, hundreds of children will not have to go without presents this year!
How do the toys get distributed to the children who need them most?
Beech Brook’s mental health professionals work with children and their families in a variety of ways – in their homes, in schools, at community centers, through the courts, in child care centers, and more.
Here are a few ways we ensure the children we serve receive their holiday gifts from the #GivingTuesday Toy Drive:
- Beech Brook’s Family Center distributes around 150 holiday gifts to parents they serve. Parents sign up and tell us the ages of the children, and our staff wraps a gift for the parent to collect. Some parents give the child the gift themselves and others say the gift came from Santa Claus.
- School-based therapists and other mental health professionals identify families they know are struggling during the holidays, and they give the gifts to the parents before Christmas.
- Supportive Visitation coaches pick out games the parents can play with their children when they have supportive visits. And the parents can then take the games home with them!
This effort is the result of our collective team work to make the holidays brighter for the children and families we serve. Thank you for being a part of it!
