Young Mother Gets a Helping Hand

Out of resources and nowhere left to turn, Sherrice Sockwell, a mother of three young children, found herself at Beech Brook’s Family Drop-In Center at the Carl B. Stokes Social Service Mall in Cleveland’s Central Neighborhood in search of help.

Referred there for classes and struggling to provide basic necessities for her children, Sockwell opened up to Parent Education Supervisor Debra Brown (whom she affectionately calls, “My Momma Brown”) about her dire situation.
Brown immediately linked her with resources to get her life on track, one step at a time—including classes at the Drop-In Center, education/job programs and housing assistance.

Today, Sockwell is working hard toward her goal of making a better life for herself and her children. She is well on her way to earning her GED and has found stable housing for her family.
