School-Based Mental Health Programs

When children suffer from emotional and behavioral problems at school, it's hard to focus on the business of learning. Each school day becomes an ordeal for the children, their teachers, their parents and their peers.

Beech Brook's School-Based Programs provide mental health support to these children where and when they need it – every day in school.

A Partnership for Educational Success

Working hand in hand with the child, teachers, administrators and families, Beech Brook’s School-Based staff helps children overcome the mental health problems that are getting in the way of their learning. Together, this child-centered team works to improve attendance, school performance, behavior and social interaction with others.

The School-Based staff tailors a treatment plan to meet the needs of each child in the program, including individual, group and classroom support. In addition to those services, the staff also provides:

  • case management;
  • home visits;
  • teacher/administrator consultations;
  • Parenting groups;
  • family support groups;
  • individual and family counseling;
  • information and referrals to other Beech Brook programs or to other agencies.

Different Services for Different Needs

School-Based programs can be tailored to meet the specific needs of each school system. Beech Brook provides several school-based models in more than 30 elementary schools throughout the Greater Cleveland area, each based on a needs assessment and developed in conjunction with the host district.

Current Beech Brook models include:

  • one-on-one student counseling, support groups, family intervention, classroom support and teacher consultation;
  • jointly operated specialized classrooms within the home district;
  • a campus-based day treatment program.
