Beech Brook Holds 159th Annual Meeting

Beech Brook held the 159th Annual Meeting of the Board of Directors Sept. 15, 2011, in the Fenn-Wright Center of the Beech Brook campus, 3737 Lander Rd., Pepper Pike. Each year board members and supporters gather to celebrate the accomplishments of the year and look to the challenges ahead. The agency fiscal year ended on June 30, 2011. Guest speaker for the evening was John Begala, executive director of the Center for Community Solutions. Begala’s topic was “Back to the Future: The Health and Social Safety Net in Hard Times.” David Hussey, Ph.D., was the recipient of this year’s Suzanne Brookhart Harrison Society Award for Exceptional Service to Children. Hussey is the director of Research and Evaluation at Beech Brook and an associate professor of Social and Behavioral Sciences at Kent State University’s College of Public Health. Dr. Hussey is both a clinician and researcher, with more than 30 years of research and clinical experience in hospital and community mental health settings. He has done extensive prevention, intervention and treatment research in a variety of school and community-based settings with special interests in youth violence, victimization, addictions and child mental health treatment. Dr. Hussey has authored over 50 scholarly publications and secured more than $8 million dollars in research funding. Bank of America was honored with the Corporate Partnership Award for their many hours of volunteer work and corporate support for Beech Brook. Also recognized were the newest members of The Jeptha Homer Wade Society, which recognizes donors who have contributed $100,000 or more in giving. This year’s inductees were The Abington Foundation, The Hankins Foundation and The Thomas White Foundation.
